My good friend told me about a television program he used to watch when he was a kid that encouraged self-esteem. While having a conversation he told me he likes to teach people what he learned as a kid through the famous last words at the end of every episode. The captain would say, “Be somebody important, be yourself.” The first time he said that I fell in love with that statement. It is amazing how powerful a few simple words can be.
Many of us go through life doing what our friends do, what celebrities do, what our parents do or what society tells us to do. They never stop to think about what they really want to do or what actually makes them happy. If you keep doing what others are doing eventually you will tire out and you will have little energy left to discover what’s missing in your life. When that happens you will be forced to find a second wind and get busy working on being yourself.
There is nobody more important than you. Get to know yourself so that you can get to be yourself. There is nobody in the world like you. People want to know you, so let them be blessed with the power you possess. You are beautiful, powerful, and unstoppable. You are a VIP!
Knowing you are important…Now That’s Presidential!
This is the most selfless thing you can do. Help someone else do or have the very thing you desire. This life exercise will teach you humility and erase any selfishness you have inside of you. If you have been selfish in the past this is a great way to teach yourself to be giving at all cost.
The great thing is the sayings, “what goes around comes around” or “the things that you do come back to you” are true. Lucky for you, karma works in good and bad situations alike. So if you help someone get the business connection they need you will get the connection you need.
If you volunteer to help a friend conduct research for an important project they are working on the information you need will come flowing toward you. Helping others can feel good and that feeling is a reward but the benefit it reaps is an even bigger reward.
So if you choose the best food and wine for yourself also provide that for your guest. If you wish for peace also give peace and if it is knowledge you crave file it away. Remember you teach what you need to learn. Give what you need and you will never need anything again.
Giving…Now That’s Presidential!

We should not envy what someone else has. Coveting your neighbors’ blessings is counterproductive and a waste of time. Everyone has their own blessings that are going to come in their own time.
If you have a desire to accomplish what your colleagues have let that fuel your effort. Push harder, smile bigger, breathe deeper and work smarter. Everything that is yours is on its way. Spend less time looking at your neighbors grass and more time watering yours.
Envy takes time and energy and distracts you from your business. Do not waste energy on envy, please. Put it to good use. If you see something you want, figure out how to get it. If you want happiness, be clear on what makes you happy and stay far away from what makes you sad.
If someone has what you desire ask them how they got it. Be creative. Watch, study and learn their techniques for success. Give them credit where credit is due and put yourself in a position for them to envy you. I bet you they already do. You would be surprised.
Channeling your energy…Now That’s Presidential!
Have you been working hard? Did you finally check something off of your “to do” list that has been there a long time? Did you accomplish one of your personal or career goals? What have you done for your life lately?
I’m sure if you give it some thought you can find a reason to celebrate. There are lots of reasons to celebrate, some big, some small. It doesn’t have to be a huge accomplishment and it doesn’t have to be a huge celebration. Think of something you did that made you feel good, something that made you a little more proud of yourself. Whether you save yourself some money or saved a cat from a tree, if it made you feel good, it is worth celebrating.
Take a few minutes, hours, or days to reflect on your breakthrough. Whatever amount of time you can spare, take all of it and celebrate yourself. If you only have time for a special dinner, do it. Order your favorite meal at your favorite place. If you have more time and resources and it is a really big accomplishment take yourself to a place that you have always wanted to visit. Explore!
You deserve it and most importantly you have earned it. Make a note of your exciting accomplishments and match them with an equally exciting celebration. Enjoy!
