There is only one….

There is only ONE you so that makes you number 1!

My email signature use to say “There is only one Kiné”. Some people liked it and understood it. Other people thought it was arrogant, while others thought it wasn’t true.

It had two means. 1. That there is nobody else in the world exactly like me. And 2. that no matter what is going on around me I am the same. No matter what it looks like or who I am around I am the same. I may choice to let another side of me show but at the core I am the same. The same can also be true about you. There is only one you.

If you know your strengths and you are confident in yourself it will not matter how confident someone else is. That confidence should motivate and impress you. You are enough, you are the best and you are the only one who knows how to be you.

You can be the same at the core and still have different sides of you. I can also be described as a chameleon because I have something in common with so many different people. While talking with a new associate of mine we discussed whether being a chameleon was a good or bad thing and what it really meant. He was once called a chameleon as an insult. My take on insults is; turn it around. If the statement is true and you like that part of yourself take it as a compliment. If it is something you are trying to change about yourself take it as correction and keep changing. If it is not true than who cares what that person says, they don’t know you anyway.

But let’s say you do care what that person thinks. In that case you have to break it down to them and communicate so that they know you better and understand what is important to you. They also need to understand how you think and why you are they way you are.

I look at it like this. A chameleon has many colors inside. Many different ways of blending in with what’s around. For the chameleon this is a safety tactic and in some ways this may be the same for the human chameleon but bigger than that it is a living tactic. Having a little in common with a lot of people is a great way to live. It doesn’t mean you are trying to be all things to all people or people please, it means you are well rounded. Just because some people are one-sided and are not able to adjust the way you do doesn’t mean you are phony.

People should not be so judgemental. They should lighten up, see more of the world, express themselves freely and pray they have something in common with everyone they meet so they can explore themselves and others more. This can make the world more peaceful. This can help us get along better. This can be the difference between learning and growing and staying exactly the same for life. Is that what you want? Or do you like to explore, be open, adjust, broaden, change, relate and get to know every part of yourself. Live a colorful life with many patterns. Adjust when the time is right and get the most out of any situation you are in.

Learn to finesse your chameleon powers and get all that life has to offer.
